With Samsung and Apple vying for “thinnest phone” supremacy, it’s no surprise that other phone makers are trying to launch their own “thinnest” phones.
Samsung will launch the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge later this spring, while Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 Air in September alongside the regular iPhone launch.
But Chinese company Tecno may beat them to the punch with its Tecno Spark Slim (via Notebook Check), a concept device we should see at MWC 2025 next week. Tecno calls the Spark Slim “the industry’s thinnest device with a 5200mAh+Galaxy S25 Edge battery” and a dual 50MP camera. It also has a 13MP front-facing camera.
The phone is expected to be 5.75mm thick and feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 1224p resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Tecno claims brightness of up to 4,500 nits.
Spark Slim vs Galaxy S25 Edge The iPhone 17 Air’s 5.57mm thickness is impressive. Samsung’s upcoming Edge is rumored to be slightly thicker at 6mm, and may only feature a 4,000mAh battery. The iPhone 17 Air is said to be 5.5mm thick, but the iPhone 17 Air battery may be smaller. The rated capacity represents the guaranteed minimum charge, while the advertised capacity reflects the expected performance under ideal conditions. While such slight differences are common, what may be more disappointing to buyers is that the device is marketed at a capacity of 3,900mAh, which is smaller than the standard 4,000mAh Galaxy S25 battery.Capacity has always been one of the trade-offs in producing ultra-thin phones, but there have been previous signs that it may be comparable to the Galaxy S25. In a now-deleted video, a YouTuber who appears to have owned a Galaxy S25 Edge model in February claimed that theGalaxy S25 Edge batteryhas a capacity of 4,000mAh.
