Reviews on the Apple Magic Mouse 2 battery life are divided: some say it drops 1% in 3 hours, while others say a full charge only lasts a day or two. The dividing line isn’t usage intensity, but rather understanding its battery logic.
It’s more power-efficient than you think. The Magic Mouse 2 automatically enters deep sleep mode after a very short period of inactivity, waking up only when moved, eliminating the need to manually turn it off after each use. Frequent manual switching is unnecessary. The only real need is to turn it off: for long-term storage or carrying in a bag, where turning it off minimizes self-discharge.
The Apple Magic Mouse 2’s charging strategy is more crucial than its power-saving strategy. This built-in lithium battery is most vulnerable to over-discharge. Many people habitually use it until it’s completely empty before charging, or use it as a wired mouse for extended periods, both of which accelerate Apple Magic Mouse 2 battery aging. The correct approach is: plug it in with the Lightning cable when the battery drops to around 20%, charging for 2 minutes will provide approximately 9 hours of use, and a full charge takes about 2 hours. There’s no need to intentionally “fully charge it every time,” and long-term storage with a completely empty battery is not recommended.
A sudden, rapid battery drain is most likely not a settings issue. If a fully charged battery drains to zero in a day or two, even after leaving it off overnight, it’s generally safe to assume the battery is old, rather than Bluetooth or the system stealing power. In this case, further settings optimization is futile; replacing the Apple Magic Mouse 2 battery is the real solution. The Magic Mouse 2’s power-saving philosophy is simple: don’t over-manage it, but don’t let it starve.
