The first setting: Turn off “Auto-select Satellite Mode” and force a switch to “UltraTrac”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most people don’t know that the default “Multi-Frequency Multi-Satellite” or “Auto-select” mode on the Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar is the number one culprit for battery drain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multi-frequency multi-satellite (GPS+GLONASS+Galileo+BeiDou) positioning accuracy is extremely high, suitable for urban high-rise buildings or dense forest environments, but it drains the battery extremely quickly\u2014in real-world testing, it drains about 6%-8% of theGarmin Forerunner 955 Solar\u00a0Smart Watch Battery<\/a><\/u><\/strong>in one hour. That means a 10% battery level on a Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar will only last for about two hours in this mode. I turned it off, went to Settings \u2192 Satellite \u2192 Mode \u2192 and selected “UltraTrac”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UltraTrac is Garmin’s power-saving GPS mode specifically designed for ultra-long distances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Screen brightness is also reduced to the lowest level (5%), Bluetooth connection to the phone is turned off (to avoid power consumption from Bluetooth broadcasts), automatic backlight on\/off, and only manual button presses are enabled for data viewing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The map page is closed, leaving only the most basic “distance + time + pace” data bars. Map rendering is a major CPU consumer; turning it off added about an hour to theGarmin Forerunner 955 Solar\u00a0Smart Watch Battery<\/a><\/u><\/strong> life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
