Microsoft<\/a><\/strong> Surface Pro 9 and Surface Pro 8 At first glance, the two Surface tablets look very similar, but once you dig a little deeper into the surface, you’ll see a lot of differences. Let’s take a look at their differences, which tablet is better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surface Pro 9 vs Surface Pro 8: Price
Surface Pro 9 starts at $1,000\/\u00a31,099, Surface Pro 8 has a higher MSRP, but now it’s cheaper
Always straddling the line between tablet and laptop, the Surface Pro line uses Windows and Intel Core processors to give it the best laptop features while maintaining a tablet form factor. That means they’re usually priced closer to professional laptops than cheaper Android tablets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. MSRP for the Surface Pro 9 at launch was actually slightly less than the equivalent starting spec model of the Pro 8: $1,000 versus $1,099 for the Pro 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, you can obviously get more processing power with the Surface Pro 9, although some higher-spec models can get quite expensive. If you want a more powerful device, the updated Pro 9 is definitely the way to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, the Pro 9 can be equipped with an Intel Core processor or the new Microsoft<\/a><\/strong> SQ3 chip. The slightly higher starting price of the 5G-enabled SQ3 model also means that the overall selection of models is larger than the Pro 8. There’s also a cheaper non-Evo i5 version of the Pro 9, which appears to be only available in the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a complete cleanse for the Surface Pro 9. Much like the Pro 8, it can be equipped with an i5 or i7 processor — a move to ensure the new tablet meets Intel’s “Evo” specification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main difference is that these are 12th generation Intel Core processors, also known as “Alder Lake” CPUs. The 11th-generation “Tiger Lake” chips in the Surface Pro 8 are no slouch, and to be clear, Alder Lake brings a unique new microarchitecture called big.LITTLE that uses two different types of CPU cores: Performance Kernel and Efficiency Kernel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This essentially means a huge generational leap in multi-core performance, with the efficiency cores handling the background processors and the performance cores handling more complex tasks. 12th Gen Intel essentially knocks the previous generation out of the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a tricky category, as the overall design here has barely changed. The Surface Pro 8’s exterior design has changed a lot from the previous model. Moving to the Pro 9 feels like a small tweak at best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both are very sturdy tablets, with sturdy kickstand hinges and mostly metal casings. The Surface Pro 9 has slightly more rounded edges than the Pro 8, which may be a callback to the more curved design of the Surface Pro X, which gave birth to the Microsoft<\/a><\/strong> SQ CPU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also differences between the Intel and SQ3 models of the Pro 9. Both versions have a ventilation channel hidden on the back of the display, but only the Intel version has holes in the back of the case to better cool the chips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
