While we were impressed by its look, feel, and flexibility for everyday office tasks, the S510 fell short in one key area:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.batteriesfast.co.uk\/laptop-battery\/Asus\/C31N1637\/1737942\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Asus VivoBook S510 Laptop Battery<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life. The S510&#8217;s viewing angles are decent. Yes, the screen dims noticeably when viewed from center, left, right, or up or down at about a 30-degree angle, but charts, documents, and images remain clear, and colors don&#8217;t invert when you tilt the screen upward. Keyboard, Trackpad, Speakers, and Webcam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The S510 has a large, backlit keyboard with typical chicklet-style keys. The keys themselves are quite responsive, with a moderate amount of travel and a slightly concave feel. Typists who are used to hitting the keyboard hard (I raise my hand) may notice a bit of flex in the middle of the keyboard, though. Overall Performance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The VivoBook S510&#8217;s Core i7-7500U&#8217;s performance is predictable for a dual-core chip: responsive for everyday work but sluggish for more demanding, CPU-intensive tasks that quad-core Ultrabooks can easily handle<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.batteriesfast.co.uk\/laptop-battery\/Asus\/C31N1637\/1737942\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Asus VivoBook S510 Laptop Battery<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Battery life is the most interesting, not to mention disappointing, aspect of the Asus VivoBook S510. We test laptop battery life by looping a 4K video file using the Windows 10 Movie &amp; TV app with the volume turned down to half (we kept a pair of headphones plugged in) and the display set to about 250 nits. For the S510, that means the brightness setting is nearly maxed out. Normally, we&#8217;d expect a laptop of the VivoBook&#8217;s size and weight to last eight or nine hours on our<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.batteriesfast.co.uk\/laptop-battery\/Asus\/C31N1637\/1737942\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Asus VivoBook S510 Laptop Battery<\/a><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>rundown test. Unfortunately, the S510 lasted just under five hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s going on? According to Windows Task Manager, the S510&#8217;s CPU speed rarely exceeded 1.5GHz during testing (and was actually much lower than the CPU&#8217;s idle speed of around 2.5GHz), so an overactive processor isn&#8217;t the culprit. A more likely culprit is the 15.6-inch 1080p display, which must be cranked up to meet our minimum standards for room brightness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conclusion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $799 VivoBook S510 looks tempting, with a 15-inch display, strong productivity features, and a generous selection of ports, all crammed into a sleek 3.7-pound chassis.
