It’s a welcome new feature for the iPhone, but not everyone is happy with AOD.

Despite Apple’s claim that AOD uses “minimum power,” some iPhone 14 Pro users have taken to Twitter to complain about its battery drain. Others were unhappy with its brightness, especially when it was charging by their bedside at night.

If you recently bought an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max and you’re not sure about AOD, here’s what you need to know about the Always-On display and how to disable it automatically or manually.

How does the always-on display work?
Both the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models feature ProMotion 120Hz screens, which means your display refreshes 120 times per second. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother, sharper, faster and more responsive your screen feels, which is nice, but it does use up quite a bit of battery.

While the iPhone 13 Pro models have the same ProMotion 120Hz screen, they can’t change the refresh rate. Only the iPhone 14 Pro models are able to reduce their display frequency to as low as 1Hz and refresh only once per second, enabling dark, power-efficient AOD.

The always-on display will temporarily turn itself off
Despite its name, AOD occasionally shuts down. Apple lists situations in which the display can be turned off completely to save battery:
Your iPhone is face down, your iPhone is in your pocket or bag, your iPhone is connected to CarPlay, your iPhone is connected to an Apple Watch, and you walk away, your iPhone has been idle for a while (according to Apple’s say, your iPhone learns your mode and automatically turns off AOD), sleep focus is enabled, low power mode is enabled, you are using a continuity camera

How to turn off always-on display completely
All of the above will temporarily turn off AOD, but if you’re not a fan, you can manually disable the new iPhone feature entirely.

In the Settings app, go to Display & Brightness, scroll all the way down to the bottom and turn off Always On.

>>>>>>>>>>>>iPhone battery

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, released last Friday, feature a new and energy-efficient always-on display that automatically dims the lock screen when your phone isn’t in use, but doesn’t turn it off.
