Of all the wearables Samsung has coming out in 2024, the $299.99 Galaxy Watch 7 is the least exciting. It\u2019s not an entirely new category like the Galaxy Ring, nor is it a new form factor like the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Even at my launch event, Samsung waved, \u201cOh, the Galaxy Watch 7 is here too \u2014 and, well, it\u2019s really great!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, if you have a Galaxy Watch 4, 5, or 6, you know what you\u2019re getting. In a year where Samsung has restructured its wearable lineup, the Galaxy Watch 7 is a staunch part of it. After using the Galaxy Ring and Ultra for the past three weeks, I\u2019ve come to appreciate that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.batteriesfast.co.uk\/search?search=Galaxy+Watch+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.batteriesfast.co.uk\/smart-watch-battery\/Samsung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Galaxy Watch 7 Battery<\/a><\/strong>Life Still Middling<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of comfort, wearability is a big plus for the base Galaxy Watch. The Ultra was bulky on my wrist, and I had trouble getting used to the new FDA-approved sleep apnea detection feature, which depends on a good fit. Not so with the Galaxy Watch 7. I have the 40mm Watch 7, and the sleep apnea feature works without issue. It\u2019s just personal taste, but I also prefer the way the simpler round display feels on my wrist compared to the Ultra. The slimmer profile is another huge benefit. Even though it\u2019s summer, I know this watch won\u2019t get caught on jacket sleeves or other clothing. But just as my experience with the Ultra reminded me how I took the Watch 7\u2019s chic, thin design for granted, it also highlighted its biggest weakness:&nbsp;<strong><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.batteriesfast.co.uk\/search?search=Galaxy+Watch+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Galaxy Watch&nbsp; Battery<\/a><\/u><\/strong>&nbsp;life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even after a calibration period, I only got about 24 hours of use on a single charge. That hasn\u2019t changed much from the Galaxy Watch 4, 5, and 6. The main difference with the 7 is that I can reliably get through a full day, whereas before I sometimes struggled to even do that. (People with the 44mm Watch 7 will have more time, since it has a larger<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Galaxy Watch7 battery<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.) Fast charging would alleviate some of the pain, but I\u2019ll add that I\u2019m a heavy user of GPS and keep the always-on display enabled most of the time. You\u2019ll get better mileage if you stick to the gym or turn off AOD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of this is surprising, since not much has changed on the Watch 7 hardware-wise. The only differences are that it has a new 3nm Exynos W1000 chip and an upgraded three-in-one BioActive sensor \u2014 and it runs Wear OS 5 and One UI 6 Watch out of the box, but those will eventually come to older Galaxy Watches, too. (You can already download the beta.) Overall performance is fast, though I didn\u2019t notice any noticeable accuracy gains from the new BioActive sensor. Most of the new features come down to health features: AI health insights, an energy score for measuring recovery, sleep apnea detection, and a puzzling AGE metric that purportedly measures metabolic health using the interaction of sugar with fat and protein. I cover these features in more detail in my Ring and Ultra reviews, but the gist is that they\u2019re hit or miss. Double tap is another \u201cnew\u201d feature, and you can use this gesture to dismiss alarms, answer calls, or control the camera. Samsung has had this feature for a while, but it\u2019s gotten more attention this year.
